Honey Farm Display

Game/Donation Box.

Something different in the way of a donation box.

The central knob rotates a two-layer perspex disk. Between the layers of perspex are barriers which form a maze.

The player drops a coin in the slot at the top and carefully rotates the disks to manipulate the coin through the maze.

Of course there are many places along the way where if the player isn't careful the coin simply falls out of the maze and into the cash box.

I added a timer and a 'success' lighting circuit. When the player is ready he or she presses a button which resets the numeric timer to zero and turns off the the success lights.

The timer starts counting seconds when the coin is dropped.

If the coin drops through the recieving slot, and if the wheel is rotated so the exit from the maze is in the finish position, the timer will stop and the success lights will flash.

Players who get through the maze in less than 25 seconds receive a honey ice-cream.

Some details of the game include:

  • a steel frame supporting two industrial bearings which house the central steel shaft which in turn holds the perspex disks and knob
  • a yellow perspex back panel which is illuminated by two flurescent tubes
  • four light sensitive switches to monitor wheel position and the passing of the coins
  • a digital timer
  • a chaser circuit driving five 10w halogen bulbs

The panel at the top of the unit with coin slot, reset button and timer digits.

This is the oblique panel. The flowers are backlit with 4 lights which chase (illuminate each flower area in sequence) when a coin drops through the slot at the bottom of the wheel.

At lower left is a slot for people who do not wish to play the game. The "Thank You" sign flashes when a coin is put through that slot.

At left is a diagram of the maze - the path the coin must travel. Rotating the disk allows the coin to fall until it hits a barrier.

Left is first draft schematic for the game. Although some details were changed, it helps make the concept a little clearer.
